Big Data Analytics in SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 with Microsoft Graph Data Connect
Have you ever worked in a large enterprise-scale SharePoint Online or OneDrive environment with thousands of sites, or millions of files, or thousands of users?
If you have, then you probably understand the challenges with trying to get detailed and timely analytics on your current state, including permissions for all files across all sites, or storage information for all sites and to try and figure out which groups are consuming all your space. Governing large enterprise-scale SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments is a real challenge due to the sheer amount of data you need to reason over.
In this workshop, we'll look at how the Microsoft Graph Data Connect for SharePoint (Project Archimedes) provides some exciting capabilities which will help to get us this data quickly, without getting throttled, and in a form that we can easily report on, across very large enterprise scale environments.
We'll provide a step by step demonstration of how to setup and use Microsoft Graph Data Connect for SharePoint (Project Archimedes), Azure Synapse and Power BI to get access to these datasets quickly and efficiently, without getting throttled, and in a form that we can easily report on across very large enterprise environments.

SharePoint Data Modeling: From Requirements to Usage
Data modeling is an essential first step in any Power Apps or Power Automate project. Power apps provides a user interface for information stored in a data source and Power Automate creates workflows that manipulate data stored in a data source based on specific events or triggers. Data modeling is difficult enough for professional developers, but it is even harder for citizen developers.
Citizen developers usually have little exposure to concepts like data normalization and often can’t use true relational databases like SQL or Dataverse because of the cost of Premium licensing. So, they are left trying to figure out how to build their flows or apps using data stored in SharePoint lists or Excel spreadsheets.
In this workshop I will show you some real-world techniques for doing data modeling. I’ll start with a typical project requirements definition and show you how to easily convert it into an Entity Relationship model. Next, I’ll show you how to map that Entity Relationship model onto a set of SharePoint lists. Once I have the lists designed, I’ll show you how to use them in a Power App and a flow.
Along the way I’ll walk you through what you need to know about using SharePoint as a data source, including:
- What Column types work well and which ones to avoid
- When to use (or not use) Lookup columns to create relationships between lists
- How to plan for Security in SharePoint
- Other Common issues
I’ll focus on SharePoint in the workshop but the techniques I teach you are also applicable for other data sources like Excel, SQL or even Dataverse.

Power BI Gotchas - Dan's Dirty Dozen
In this session you will get some insights into the Power BI gotchas that I have seen over the years. I will highlight a dozen of what I would call "what not to do" or shall we say "dirty" items. I have had an opportunity over the years to work with some of the largest customers of Power BI in the world and you might be surprised what comes up sometimes;)
We will cover items around data model development, DAX, and report design for the things to be aware of and go over how to avoid and fix these things when developing Power BI models and reports that I feel should be avoided.
The dozen items that will be covered are just a glimpse into the report development of "what not to do" items at least in my opinion, I am sure you have seen your fair share as well and would love to hear what others have come across or potentially done too:)

Teams and Microsoft 365 Sharing - Unstructured and Structured
Teams and Microsoft 365 external sharing is all about publishing or collaborating with people outside your organization. Users will find ways to do it with or without IT support (typically through email or shadow IT), so it's important for IT to provide an easy way for them to do it effectively and securely.
Sharing can be done in a number of different ways. Unstructured sharing to a small set of external users works well with the OOTB SharePoint and OneDrive features. External users can also be invited in as full Microsoft Teams guests for collaboration. Teams Shared Channels can be used to improve the user experience for external users, eliminating the need for tenant switching in Teams.
As the scale increases, structured sharing with many external users needs alternatives such as Azure AD B2B, custom code or third party solutions. We'll discuss options available and what makes sense where using real world examples.
In this session we will cover both configuring sharing appropriately, and the user experience for both content sharers and recipients. We'll go through a number of different scenarios.
